I am starting this blog to collect and share classic recipes from my family. So, why Spaghetti and Gravy? Because that is what I ate every Saturday night in my childhood. For those who did not grow up in an Italian-American family in Chicago, "gravy" is tomato-based meat sauce. So, why not call it meat sauce? I don't know, but my family always calls it gravy, so there it is.
Every Saturday, Mom would start making the gravy about mid-day and let it simmer all afternoon. Along with the gravy, we would have spaghetti, garlic bread, hard-boiled eggs (seriously), and for dessert, chocolate chip cookies. Being the youngest of seven kids, I was usually in the kitchen helping Mom. The rest of family was often out with their own activities, but every Saturday night, we knew dinner was spaghetti and gravy.
The first recipe posted here will be Saturday night spaghetti and gravy dinner. Coming soon.
